Met upon arrival and transfer to Neemrana. A 15th century fort, it is a stunning heritage resort and a great introduction to our sojourne in the desert of Rajasthan.

Morning drive to Mandawa.

Known for its intricatetly painted havelis (mansions), Mandawa, located in the Shekvati region of northern Rajasthan, is a 4 hour drive from Neemrana. The stunning havelis with beautiful outdoor and indoor paintings have made this region, a special area to visit.

Morning drive to Bikaner.

An oasis town among scrub and sand dunes, Bikaner was founded by Rao Bika in 1488. It was once an important staging post on the great caravan trade routes and constituted a major centre of learning and wool trading The walled city retains a medieval air and sandstone architecture. The Junagadh fort is one of the best preserved in the country, with intricate murals and magnificent stone carvings. It is an unusual location for a fort, because other major forts of Rajasthan were built on hilltops, but this fort is built on the desert plain, surrounded by a moat.

Morning drive to Chngwana, a small village close to the sandy desert. Our camels will be waiting for us here. After lunch in a shady glen, we ride our camels for 2 hours. Our track passes through small adobe style hutments of the various tribes that inhabit the thar desert. These include the Bishnois, the followers of 29 fold path, Raikas, the camel breeders, Meghwals and others. We will have the option of riding the camel carts also. For the enthusiasts, walking on the sand option is also available.

Morning ride for two hours. Our bus will be waiting for us at the end point of the trek. After saying goodbye to our camel crew, drive to Jaiselmer.

The golden citadel of Jaisalmer, illuminated by the penetrating sun, rises up majestically out of the Thar dessert like a mirage. The city's massive fort towers over ancient medieval alleyways and winding streets filled with intricately carved spires, turrets, palaces and temples. Exploring the maze-like alleys and bazaars is part of the fun and the sunsets over the Thar Dessert have to be seen to be believed. Jaislamer is a unique architectural masterpiece that never fails to amaze: this magical sandstone city is unlike any other in India and feels like something straight out of "Arabian Nights". It attracts visitors seduced by the mystery and romantic charm of the desert.

Nestled between mighty Rajasthani forts and the rugged Aravalli Hills, Jaipur, known as the pink city due to the colour of its houses, is one of the most enticing places in India. Every aspect of this majestic city was planned streets, sidewalks, building height and the division of blocks were all based on ancient geometric harmony and sound environmental and climatic considerations. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, Jaipur finds itself steeped in Rajput history, epitomised by sites such as the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal and the beautiful Amber Fort, which can be reached on elephant-back; a fantastic way to take in the awe-inspiring vistas and romance of this magical location. Timelessly appealing bazaars full of colourful textiles and trinkets form an integral part of the city centre and the sensory whirl of streets packed with camel carts and cycle-rickshaws make Jaipur a dazzling, spirited city like no other.

Head out to explore "Old Delhi" with its narrow dirt roads, its myriad people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. Visit Raj Ghat (the cremation ground of Mahatma Gandhi). Driving past the Red Fort, we trade our motor vehicles for bicycle rickshaws, which will take us into the heart of Chandini Chowke (the silver square - so named because of the silver merchants). Negotiating alleyways, which seemingly get narrower and narrower we end up at the Jama Masjid, the largest Muslim mosque in India.
